Thanks for visiting my web page! I hope that you’ll remain here for just a few minutes to see why I named this website Run This Way. As you read this testimony about a health scare that happened to me, my hope is that it would help to sharpen your perspective on life as well lead you to finding genuine hope and peace which just about everyone seems to be searching for.
Life is obviously full of both unpleasant and pleasant surprises. We are always hoping for the best for ourselves and our loved ones, but sometimes in spite of our hopes life throws an unexpected curveball and then suddenly things can go terribly awry. Unfortunately for many, these fateful circumstances can lead to tragedy. This is a testimony of how life changed for me, and how it could have easily led to my demise. Only by the grace of God do I remain here.
In October 2016, one day before I was preparing to embark on a flight down south for a vacation with my family, I entered the hospital to undergo a scheduled nuclear lung scan. A series of previous cardio-pulmonary tests failing to diagnose the cause of my extreme shortness of breath, erratic heartbeat, and low blood oxygen levels finally led me into this situation. The results of the scan revealed that there existed a number of blood clots lodged inside my lungs, and that I needed to be immediately transported to the ER. There I was intravenously treated with a blood thinner and underwent more tests, only to discover that a large blood clot also existed in my leg. This was certainly not how I expected things to unravel the day before I was ready to leave for vacation. Needless to say, my vacation plans came to an abrupt end. I was informed by the doctors that had I flew on a plane the next day, it could have led to a far worse situation because of hosting blood clots on a plane at high altitudes. Thankfully I was rescued from possibly experiencing a more catastrophic situation, and remained hospitalized for further treatment. Fortunately, my life was preserved.
This serious health event in my life acted as a strong reminder that life can be drastically and suddenly altered, and possibly ended at any moment, so we really need to refocus on what matters the most. Life is so volatile. None of us can predict when we might become the next victim of another terrorist attack, mass shooting, vehicle accident, heart attack, stroke, drowning, fire, and the list goes on and on. Yet in the midst of these morbid thoughts about the brevity of life, we can still experience peace and hope. I am able to experience this myself because of placing faith in the only person who not only rescued me from this health scare, but more importantly rescued me from entering into a tortuous eternity without God when it comes time to leave this earth. The Bible explains that every person is a sinner, which leads to experiencing God’s wrath if one rejects Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to endure the penalty that our sins incurred. If we acknowledge this and ask Him for forgiveness, He promises that no matter what we’ve done wrong, we’ll be cleansed, renewed, and given a fresh new start in life, empowered to serve God and others like we’ve never been able to do before. Finally, when this short life comes to a close, we’ll spend an eternity with our Lord and savior in the best place that we could ever imagine.
In the Bible, Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is THE WAY by which we can experience a new, better life in service to Him and others, rather than living it for our own selfish gain. He is also the way by which we can come to know God the Father in a very personal way. Just in case you’re wondering, this is why I named my website “Run This Way.” In other words, run to Jesus, who is THE WAY to heaven, before it’s too late!
